About Game Day Memories

How We Started

Founded in 2008, the inspiration for Game Day Memories came to Bo Mitchell after an encounter with a father and his son. Bo has been the Chaplain for the Denver Nuggets for twenty years, where he witnessed a father by the name of Sherwood Owens sharing dinner on game nights with his son, Nick who was born with Spina Bifida and is restricted to a wheelchair. After dinner, Nick and his dad would watch the Nuggets game together. Nicholas attends every Nuggets game, and as Bo noticed how much Nicholas benefited from his association with the Nuggets, he asked him if he thought that other people dealing with similar difficulties might also be encouraged and refreshed by attending a game. Nicholas answered with a definite “yes” and Game Day Memories began. For more of the story on Nick and his relationship with the Denver Nuggets please click here.

After researching the idea to purchase tickets for special needs families, Bo recognized that for every professional game, in every arena nationwide, there are seats reserved for sale to people with disabilities mandated by the American Disabilities Act. Game Day Memories was formed to purchase these seats, which sometimes go unused and donate the tickets to organizations that serve adults and children with special needs. These agencies then distribute the tickets to their clients and families and invite them to become Guests of Game Day Memories.

Game Day Memories has blessed thousands of families over the years with the gift of tickets to a game. The following is a testimony from a family who attended a game: "Some people underestimate the power of sports; they don't see that a single sporting event can alter the trajectory of a child's life. Sports can be that necessary spark that an unmotivated child needs in order to realize their purpose and their full potential. In all actuality you are giving out dreams; letting our kids know that with hard work and dedication, their dreams are attainable. With your gestures you are touching and changing lives in ways that will have positive ramifications in our kid's lives for years to come. And for that, from the bottom of our hearts, Thank You Game Day Memories."

How We Operate

Game Day Memories is a 501c3 organization that provides professional sporting event tickets to special needs adults, children and families. Game Day Memories purchases ADA seats at reasonable prices and then provides them at “no charge” to organizations that assist people with special needs. This wonderful resource brings “quality of life” experiences to the lives of individuals and families.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires all professional sporting venues to provide special needs seating for sale, but for many families the expense puts the experience out of reach. Donated funds enable Game Day Memories to purchase ADA seating tickets from a growing roster of teams in cities including Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Miami, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and San Diego. Tickets are distributed to qualified organizations that assist children with special needs to give to families. In Denver, Game Day Memories also coordinates game Hosts to welcome Guests to the sporting events and ensure their experience is positive. Plans to expand Host opportunities to other cities in the future are underway.
