Bo Mitchell is the Founder and President of Game Day Memories, a non-profit organization helping families with special needs children get a “night off” by sending them to a major sporting event. He had the idea of starting Game Day Memories while serving as the chaplain for the Denver Nuggets where he witnessed a father by the name of Sherwood Owens sharing dinner on game nights with his son, Nick who was born with Spina Bifida and is restricted to a wheelchair. After dinner, Nick and his dad would watch the Nuggets game together. Nick connected with the team through a Children’s Hospital event and later worked as a locker room attendant and community ambassador for the Nuggets. Inspired by Sherwood and Nick’s experiences, Bo asked them if they would consider helping other families in the same situation. They loved the idea and soon thereafter, Game Day Memories was launched and is currently in 14 cities and 21 arenas and stadiums across the United States. Game Day Memories purchases tickets at reasonable prices and partners with organizations such as Special Olympics to distribute those tickets to eligible families at no charge. The goal is for Game Day Memories to be in every city in America where there are major sports teams so that more children and their families will be able to enjoy a night off and a quality of life experience.
