Nicholas “Nick’s Picks” Owens is the inspiration and heart of Game Day Memories. The idea began when Bo Mitchell approached Nick and his father, Sherwood, to begin a program for children and adults challenged with mental and physical disabilities to be able to attend games they might not have been otherwise able to do. The program began as “Nick’s Picks,” honoring Nick and the role model he was and is around the Denver Nuggets organization. Nick and his family were humbled by the idea. The program blossomed to it’s current title of Game Day Memories involving many sporting events in Denver and other cities, but you can still see the title of “Nick’s Picks” at the Nuggets games.

Nick, who was born with Spina Bifida, began his relationship with the Denver Nuggets in 1990 as an ambassador for Children’s Hospital Colorado. At the time he received a check on behalf of the hospital and the relationship was formed. His first thrilling moment was meeting star player Dikembe Mutombo. They developed a special bond, which is alive today. At the age of 13 he was hired to work as a locker room attendant and in 2011 added to his resume the title of Community Ambassador for the Denver Nuggets. If you are at a Nuggets game you can see Nick whipping around the Pepsi Center in his power wheelchair. He also swings by the “Nick’s Pick” section to welcome his guests at the Nuggets game.
